(TSVN) – To deploy the Fisheries Law 2017, the Government, the Prime Minister and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development have been promulgating the official documents, creating a legal corridor for the management of aquatic breeds closely, improving the quality of breeds.
The inspection and supervision of the quality of aquatic breeds: traceability of aquatic breeds have been done at establishments that specialize in selecting and exporting aquatic breeds to Vietnam. To prevent poor quality breeds imported into our country, affecting domestic production; The Directorate of Fisheries has inspected the establishments in Thailand and Singapore. The Directorate of Fisheries has organized an inspection of the establishments selecting and exporting parent Techmart in Thailand and Singapore. They have checked and proposed to suspend the import of two broodstock establishments in Thailand due to the lack of quality.
To clarify the origin of domestic breeds and limit poor quality breeds, the Directorate of Fisheries has coordinated with localities, Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (A04) to inspect and penalize many establishments where produce and nurture aquatic breeds; forced destruction/ conversion of using a large quantity of broodstock that has poor quality, unknown origin, without quarantine.
Besides, to strictly manage brackish water shrimp breeds of the centralized shrimp production area and key farming regions of the country in 2018 and 2019, the General Department of Fisheries has signed on the Regulation on management of brackish water shrimp breeds among localities where produce and consume shrimp breed. This received high consensus from localities, businesses and associations; limit the inadequacies and difficulties between stages of production – circulation – use of shrimp breed.
Besides, Vietnam has also recorded many outstanding achievements in aquatic breeding. For example, the GIFT program at Aquaculture Research Institute I selected tilapia train with a growth rate of 6.6% over 2 generations by the family selection method. The program of selecting tiger shrimp breeds according to the growth status in Vietnam, implemented by the Institute of Aquaculture II through generations G1, G2, G3, has been successful. The pangasius breeding program for growth and fillet rate implemented by the Research Institute for Aquaculture II in the period 2010-2012 has calculated the actual genetic coefficient of growth status (0.24 – 0.28), the efficiency of actual selection at the growth from 7.9 to 18.2% per generation (Institute for Aquaculture II, 2015).
To have proactive seeds source for production, not only in localities but also many businesses have pioneered research to produce the best quality aquatic breeds, adapting to diverse types of products. export; bring higher productivity, efficiency. For example, Uni-President Vietnam Co., Ltd. has constantly innovated in production, using the best quality broodstock source (SIS Superior); or C.P Livestock Joint Stock Company also researched a low-salinity shrimp (CPF-Turbo Fresh) which is considered a breakthrough for low-salinity shrimp farming areas; or Vietnam-Australia Group with brings an aspiration of “Raising the level of Vietnamese shrimp” also invests in a modern, large-scale hatchery in Quang Ninh province from 2019 with a production goal of more than 1 billion breeds, twice higher than in 2020; in which, the seed serves for the province accounts for 60%, the rest serves for the provinces from Hai Phong to Ha Tinh.
It can be seen that the quality and quality of aquatic breeds have been increasingly improved, satisfy the expectations of aquaculture farmers across the country. These results are the clearest evidence for the efforts of the entire fisheries sector in general and the aquaculture seed sector in particular.
